Ciao a tutti!
Hello everybody! I’m so excited to be guest here today, Gaia always gives me a boost of enthusiasm!
I surely hope you enjoy my guest posts and I can anticipate they will be always made of unpublished material, exclusively created for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and dedicated to DIY projects and inspirations. Do you like the idea?
Allora cominciamo! So let’s get started with today’s project!
Zuccherini decorativi DIY!
DIY decorative sugar shapes!
If you read my blog you might know I have a little obsession for this type of things… The idea to make these little treats at home is by my friend Elena  . I’ve personalized her recipe and instructions and (after a first attempt gone  wrong) here’s the result!

Occorrente:
– Zucchero comune
– Acqua
– Colorante alimentare* (almeno dalle mie parti si trova in tutti i supermercati…)
– Stampini per ghiaccio (io ho usato quelli a fiore dell’Ikea) o stampi per biscotti piccoli
– Decorazioni in zucchero a piacere
Costo: molto economico
Livello di difficoltà: non facilissimo…

What you will need:
– Normal sugar
– Water
– Food coloring* (you can find it in any supermarket, at least where I live…)
– Small cookie cutter shapes or ice molds (I’ve used a flower-shaped one from Ikea)
– Sugar decorations if you want
Cost: very cheap
Difficulty level: not the easiest project ever…

Put the sugar in a small saucepan and add 1 BARE tablespoon for every 100 gr.
Heat over very low heat and be careful: the sugar must not melt nor candy, just warm up. It should look like a paste and the sugar crystals should still be visible and separate.
Remove from heat and quickly move to coloring phase. (Don’t allow the sugar to cool and dry now).
Add not more than 1-2 drops of food coloring* for every 50-75 gr. If you add more color the sugar will not dry (that was the reason of the failure of my first attempt…).

Knead with your fingers until the color is even.

Now with the help of a tablespoon fill your mold  or spread an even layer of colored sugar  not less thick than half cm on a nonstick board and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter (you will have to slide  the cutter to remove the sugar around it before you lift it).
You can add sugar decorations on the bottom of the mold (like I did) or push them slightly inside the shapes you’ve cut.
Allow your sugar to dry for some hours (I left it for one night).

Ecco fatto!
Here you go! If everything went well you should be able to easily remove your dried sugar from the mold or from the board:  the colored shapes are ready to delight your guests when you’ll serve the coffee!

And you could also use the sugar shapes  as party favors, what do you think?

* Artificial food coloring is not good for you and even less for your kids. Use in extreme moderation.

Thank you Suze…
